Como Fue descubierta:
A los diez años, Shakira audicionó para el coro de la escuela, pero fue rechazada porque su voz fue considerada “demasiada fuerte.” Sus amigos le dijeron que su voz sonaba similar a la de una cabra.ShakiraVivan los Niños. empezó a buscar otras competencias de canto, y en un programa de televisión que se transmitía semanalmente concursó, el programa se llamaba
Entre los diez y trece años, Shakira fue invitada a varios eventos en Barranquilla, y se convirtió en una celebridad local. En ese entonces, conoció a la productora de teatro Monica Ariza, la ayudó para darse a conocer fuera de Barranquilla.
Durante un vuelo de Barranquilla a la capital Bogotá, Ariza estaba sentada al lado de un ejecutivo de Sony Colombia, Ciro Vargas. Vargas quedó impresionado y consiguió una audición para Shakira, la cual llegó unas cuantas semanas más tarde al lobby del hotel. Ciro Vargas regresó a Sony office y le dio una cinta de Shakira con algunas de las canciones que ella había escrito, pero no logró complacer a los productores del todo, y pensaron que Shakira era un “caso perdido.”
Vargas estaba convencido de que ella tenía talento, y montó una audición sorpresa en Bogotá. Él engaña a los ejecutivos de Sony Colombia invitándolos a ir a un bar, y alrededor de la media noche anunció que había una sorpresa: Shakira. Ella cantó tres canciones, y su actuación fue un éxito. Shakira fue contratada para grabar tres álbumes.
